Record 01

### Your First Range Visit: what to bring and how to use 20 minutes

What a range costs, how the ball dispenser works, which three clubs to take out of the bag, and a twenty minute order to work through so you leave having done something rather than having hit a lot of balls.

- **Audience:** never played, to played a few times
- **Produces:** you can describe what you did and what you noticed

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/start#range) ART-RANGE-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 02

### First Nine Holes: the practical checklist

Booking, arrival, what to wear, which tees to play, how many clubs you actually need, what to do when you lose a ball, and when it is fine to pick up and walk to the next tee.

- **Audience:** never played, to played a few times
- **Produces:** you finish nine holes knowing what happened and why

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/start#first-nine) ART-FIRST9-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 03

### Pace of Play Without Panic: safety and ready golf

Ready golf explained without the lecture: where to stand, when to walk, how to be ready when it is your turn, what to shout and when, and the one habit that makes a slow group fast again.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** nobody behind you is waiting on a tee

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/start#pace) ART-PACE-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 04

### Do You Need 14 Clubs? Start with the clubs you can use

The rules allow fourteen. Nothing requires fourteen. What a six club bag covers, which slots earn their place first, and why a used half set is a better first purchase than a cheap new full one.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** you can say what each club in your bag is for

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/equipment#how-many) ART-14CLUBS-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 05

### What Used Club Condition Actually Means

Face wear, sole scratches, crown marks, shaft condition, ferrule gaps, grip wear and head rattle, in the order a buyer should check them. Which of those affect how the club plays, and which are only cosmetic.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** you can inspect a listing's photographs and say what you are looking at

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/equipment#condition) ART-COND-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 06

### Find Your Missing Club: gaps, loft, carry and uncertainty

How to build a carry ladder from your own shots, what size of step is actually worth filling, why loft alone does not tell you the distance, and the honest limits of working this out without a launch monitor.

- **Audience:** intermediate
- **Produces:** a written ladder with the gap, if any, identified by distance rather than by club name

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/equipment#gap) ART-GAP-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 07

### Putting Distance Control: the ten-ball challenge

Why three-putts are usually a distance problem, how to set a finishing zone, and how to run the count so that this week's number means something next to last week's.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** first putts finishing inside the zone, out of ten

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/practice#lag-putt-finishing-zone) ART-PUTT-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 08

### Chip Shot Decision Basics: safe landing targets

The order to think in from just off the green: can I putt it, can I run it, must I carry it. Picking the landing spot before the club, and why the lofted shot is usually the third choice rather than the first.

- **Audience:** beginner to intermediate
- **Produces:** landings on or near your chosen spot, out of ten

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/practice#chip-landing-target-choice) ART-CHIP-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 09

### What to Do After a Bad Range Session

One bad session is weak evidence. The damage it does is almost never to your swing; it is to the plan you were following, which you are now about to throw away for no good reason.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** you left with a note rather than a new theory

#### Write the number down anyway

Especially the bad one. A count only means something as part of a series, and a series with the bad weeks removed is not a series, it is a highlight reel. Four honest entries will show you a direction. Four selected entries will show you whatever you already believed.

#### The three questions

1. **Was anything different about today?** A new mat, wind, cold hands, a different ball, no warm-up, the end of a long day. Any of those is enough to move a count by two or three, which is most of the range it ever moves in.
2. **Did I change something mid-session?** If you started adjusting after the fourth bad shot, you did not measure one thing badly, you measured four different things once each. That is not a result.
3. **Has this now happened three times?** One session is noise. Three sessions pointing the same way is a pattern, and a pattern is worth acting on.

#### What not to do

Do not change the focus. Do not add a second drill. Do not go looking for a new theory on the internet on the drive home. The single most common way recreational golfers stop improving is by changing the plan every time a session goes badly, which means no plan ever gets the four weeks it needed.

#### What to do instead

Finish the session early if it has stopped being useful. Write the count and one line about conditions. Then do the same drill next week, in the same conditions if you can. If the count comes back up, today was a bad day. If it stays down for three or four sessions, the drill has told you something real, and the record says what to do about it: change the exercise, or spend the money on one lesson with someone who can see your swing.

If something hurts, this does not apply. Stop and see a professional. Pain is not a practice problem.

Plate 16

One session's shots, scattered wide, with the only useful thing drawn through the middle of them: the line. The individual shots are noise. The line is the measurement, and it needs four weeks of sessions before it means anything.

Record 10

### A 15-Minute Weekly Golf Practice Routine

The shape of a short session that still produces evidence: one job, twelve minutes, three minutes of writing it down. What to leave out, and why adding a second focus halves the value of both.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** four weekly entries for the same drill

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/practice#fifteen-minute-weekly-block) ART-15MIN-001 / 2026-11-01

Record 11

### Keep Your Tee Shot Playable: target and dispersion basics

What a dispersion pattern is, why your average shot matters less than your worst one, how to compare two clubs honestly over ten shots each, and how to pick the aiming point that uses the whole width of the hole.

- **Audience:** intermediate
- **Produces:** tee shots finishing in play, out of ten, club against club

[Read it](https://www.infinitefairway.com/golf-guide/practice#tee-shot-playable-width) ART-TEE-001 / awaiting instructor review

Record 12

### After-Round Review: one strength, one opportunity, next step

A review that takes under a minute and still works. Nothing during the round, nothing to install, and no detailed postmortem of a game you are meant to be enjoying.

- **Audience:** any
- **Produces:** a one line entry per round, and a focus you only change on evidence

Read the full record

#### Three boxes, one line each

1. **One thing that went well.** Not to be encouraging. Because the things that go well are the things your strategy should be built around, and most golfers cannot name theirs.
2. **One thing that cost you most.** Most, not worst. A single terrible shot usually costs one stroke. Three loose tee shots on the same side cost six, and feel like nothing at the time.
3. **Is the current focus still the right one?** Default answer: yes. You only change it when three or four comparable rounds say otherwise.

#### Why not more than that

A long review needs data you do not have, and produces conclusions a single round cannot support. Two rounds at different courses in different weather are not comparable, and treating them as though they are is how golfers end up chasing a problem that was really just wind.

#### Telling a pattern from a bad day

Count the same thing at the same course. Penalty and recovery shots per nine is the single most useful number for a recreational golfer, because it is easy to count honestly and it is where most avoidable strokes actually are. Three-putts per nine is the next most useful, for the same reason.

Compare across three or more rounds at the same course before you believe anything. Below that, you are reading noise.

#### When to change the focus

When your count on the current drill has stopped moving for three or four sessions, *and* your rounds show the same thing. One without the other is not enough. If both say so, the practice record tells you what to do next, and sometimes what it tells you is to book a lesson rather than run another drill.

#### During the round, do nothing

No logging, no prompts, no checking anything. The review happens afterwards, in under a minute, and the guide is built that way deliberately. A round you spent operating an app is a round you did not play.

Plate 17

Three boxes and two arrows. What went well, what cost most, and whether the focus still stands. The third box is the only one with a decision in it, and most of the time the decision is to change nothing.

Editorial policy

## How this material is produced.

Everything here is written from scratch. Where the founder's golf book collection is used, it is used as a research prompt and a point of comparison, never as a source to copy from: no scanned pages, no reproduced diagrams, and no branded training programmes.

Where a method is contested or results genuinely vary between golfers, the record says so and offers an experiment rather than a rule. Where a record makes specific mechanical claims, it is marked as awaiting instructor review until a qualified reviewer has signed it off, and that status is printed on the record itself rather than hidden.

Records carry a review date. If you think something here is wrong, say so and it will be corrected with the date of the correction printed on it.
